Have you ever wondered how large public aquariums keep their tanks lit, water filtered, and livestock fed? Well, this sneak peek behind the scenes at the Georgia Aquarium should shine a little light on whatever curiosities one might have in regards to handling these massive, multi-million gallon systems.

The world famous Georgia Aquarium houses thousands of different fish, invertebrates, corals, and aquatic mammals in their 8 million gallon system. This figure of course includes both freshwater and saltwater exhibits. Of that 8 million gallons, 6.3 million is dedicated to the aquarium’s most popular residents, the whale sharks. The aquarium has had up to 6 of these magnificent creatures, two of which had previously died. See below for several pictures of the Georgia Aquarium.
