Tip of the Day – 8/13/2010

Red Acro Bugs, or just “red bugs”, are an annoying pest for Acropora keepers. However, this parasite can be eradicated with some ease by using the proper tactics. You can add Interceptor, a heartworm medication for dogs, directly to your aquarium water to kill the bugs. Be careful when dosing and follow the guidelines posted on various places on the net. Also, be sure to remove any hermit crabs or other crustaceans you want to keep, as the Interceptor will wipe them all out. Other animals in the reef seem to be unaffected by the treatment.
