The Blue Glow Infinity Series Frag Rack

We recently received a set of Infinity series frag racks from The Blue Glow for a little hands on review. This set of acrylic frag racks is very simple, yet very effective at creating layers of grow out space for your frag tank. The racks have an area of 6″x6″, with heights starting at 1″ going all the way up to 8″. The Infinity series frag racks are sold as pairs or two different sets of four. The shorter of the two sets of four includes racks at 1”, 2”, 3”, and 4″. The taller set includes racks at 5”, 6”,7”, and 8” in height.

Each rack holds up to 32 of the smaller frag plugs very comfortably, but the larger plugs may present a little bit of a challenge. The holes in the frag rack may be too small for the larger plugs. The proximity of the holes might also make the frags sit too close to each other, forcing you to use fewer plugs. In discussing this with Andy of The Blue Glow, the reason for the smaller holes is to prevent crooked looking rows of frags and “tippy” plugs, as he puts it. But to accommodate to larger plugs, The Blue Glow can customize their frag racks to put in larger holes. Andy also mentioned that they will be offering their own line of frag plugs in the future. These plugs will perfectly fit in their racks, allowing for a clean look.

There was a surprising amount of attention and detail worked into every single frag rack. The edges are all polished, so there’s no hazy appearance or cut marks. The holes are also all in a straight line. You might consider these a requirement for a product such as this, but you’d be surprised at how many companies overlook these small details that really make a difference. Another thing worth mentioning is the price. A full set of four frag racks will run you $45, regardless of what size racks you want (taller or shorter). A set of two tiered racks is only $25.

I was really surprised to see how small the box was that the frag racks came in. The full set of four fit in such a small box because they are stackable, saving a ton of space. The legs of one frag rack insert into the holes of another rack. This comes in handy not only when shipping, but the individual racks combine to form one bigger frag rack. This saves space in your aquarium, but also maximizes the amount of frags you can use.

The Blue Glow frag racks are also surprisingly sturdy. A short time back, I attempted to make my own frag rack out of black eggcrate and acrylic legs, but the legs on mine seem very wobbly. The legs on the frag racks from The Blue Glow don’t move at all and the acrylic isn’t flimsy at all. Additionally, the good thing about acrylic being used as the material for the rack is it won’t grow algae like white eggcrate will.

We were very pleased with the quality of the Infinity series frag racks The Blue Glow sent to us. They are well built and serve a very important purpose. Keep in mind the Infinity series isn’t the only product offered by The Blue Glow. There are other frag racks available, which will hold even more frags (up to 330). Additionally, Andy informed us they will be releasing new products very soon, and we will be impatiently waiting.
