Meteor Cyphastrea
The Meteor Cyphastrea is a stunning and popular coral to say the least. They have a blue base with red mouths and encrust over the rocks like most chalice corals. Some species of Cyphastrea do grow in a branching pattern, but they aren’t near as common as the encrusting type. Like most LPS corals, these do very well under a wide range of lighting…from somewhat subdued all the way up to high intensity metal halides. However, most reef keepers have had the best coloration when these corals are placed closer to the bottom of the aquarium. The coral pictured above is sitting under the stock LED lighting seen in the 28-gallon JBJ LED Nano Cube aquarium.
