Mantis shrimps, though quite violent and potentially destructive, actually make great pets. They are usually pretty docile, only acting aggressively when food or competition are nearby. They can be housed in smaller aquariums, don’t require the most pristine of conditions, and really don’t require frequent feedings from my personal experience. Some Stomatopod keepers have actually been seen holding their shrimp pets, though I certainly wouldn’t have the guts to do something like that.
