A lot of the products we use in our everyday lives eventually find their way into our oceans. Sure, some of the large stuff gets filtered, but most of the chemicals and smaller solid objects make it through. Estrogen, for example, has become increasing concentrated in our wastewater and is causing feminization in fish. The exfoliating beads in a lot of our soaps are not biodegradable and also find their way into the oceans. So, next time you are at the grocery store purchasing products, just keep the oceans in mind.
