Tip of the Day 11/4/10

Fish compatibility charts and lists are great tools to get your fish selection on the right path, but keep in mind they are just suggestions. These lists do have gaps and holes, in that they do not cover every fish and they cannot guarantee that two “compatible” fish won’t fight. The best approach to fish co-habitation is to take it on a case-by-case basis, making sure to use common sense of course. A lionfish will almost always eat anything it can get into its mouth and a pair of yellow tangs are likely to fight if the pair are housed in a tank with little space. Try to diversify your fish, sticking with different genera and fish that differ in both color and shape.
