Tip of the Day – 1/28/2011

Some corals will actually get better coloration under darker light. We all know blue lighting brings out better colors, but sometimes putting a coral under a ledge or in a slightly shaded spot can bring out the colors as well. This notion especially holds true for many LPS corals and Montipora species, as most of them naturally come from deeper water to begin with. If you aren’t satisfied with a way a coral looks, and excess nutrients don’t seem to be the problem, try relocating some corals to darker areas of the tank and see how they respond.
