Tip of the Day – 8/14/2011

Aquarium stores can get quite hot and humid, especially with the temperatures as high as they have been this summer. When fish store hopping, keep this in mind and be sure to dress appropriately for the heat. Wear shorts and other light clothing, and make sure to stay hydrated throughout the day. Also keep in mind that the temperatures may creep up on you the longer you stay in the store. They may not seem unbearable when you first enter, but staying in a store for 30 minutes or more can lead to excessive sweating and other hear related effects. Small children and the elderly are especially affected, so you might want to limit their exposure to the inside of a fish store to even shorter durations. Additionally, you could mitigate the heat issues by going during cooler times of the day, such as early morning or late evening. Also keep in mind that the store will be hotter at peak traffic hours because small spaces crammed full of people get really uncomfortable really fast.
