Flathead Perch (Rainfordia opercularis) Seen on LiveAquaria Video

Last month, this stunning Flathead Perch (Rainfordia opercularis) finally showed up in the popular Diver’s Den at LiveAquaria. The well-known supplier of top-notch aquarium livestock is used to getting their hands on the rare and unusual, but this new offering takes them to a whole new level. The ultra-rare gem that is the flathead perch is touted as being the only one of its kind to ever be made available in the US, despite being available to oversees aquarium keepers for a while now, and now we’ve finally got a video of the beauty feeding on some tiny live ghost shrimp. The unusual looking fish can be seen hanging out in a small cave, darting out and quickly gobbling up shrimp as they drift near. The price tag on this Australian endemic is set at $5000, so it’s definitely a good sign to see the perch taking in food with such ferocity.

Video originally dug up by the crew at Advanced Aquarist.
