Most lighting equipment manufacturers test all of their bulbs and fixtures prior to shipping them to their distributors. This is to ensure that everything is in working order prior to the equipment getting into a customer’s hands, but this also means that the light may appear to be used when you first open it up. This is especially noticeable in metal halide bulbs, as the lamps appear to have burn marks on various parts of even a brand new bulb. If this is encountered on a new bulb purchase, do not fret, as it is merely part of the manufacturer’s quality control and you did not get ripped off.
