When it comes to designing your aquarium’s plumbing, don’t overlook the valves and union fittings. These don’t seem very useful to a fully functioning reef, but when things need to come down for maintenance or if you ever need to move an aquarium, these items can be your best friend. The valve fittings are a must, even if you don’t plan on doing anything to the tank once it’s put in place. The unions, on the other hand, can make or break a modular plumbing setup. The screw together unions allow users to remove plumbing pieces and reposition them as needed. When it comes to move a tank, they can also save you the headache by allowing you to take plumbing apart without having to make any cuts. This is all too important when you want to save money on your rebuild too.
