Tip of the Day – 4/22/2013

In any reef aquarium, things can go south in a hurry. One animal, like a clam or an anemone, can take a turn for the worse and start a chain reaction of chaos on its way out of life’s door. These large masses of flesh quickly foul up the water, and even the aquarium hobbyist has to respond right away. If the animal cannot be saved, get rid of it. It’s a sad fate, but you have to remove any dying livestock that could cause an entire tank crash. After removing the animal, large water changes must take place, and it wouldn’t hurt to add lots of activated carbon and to make sure the skimmer is working properly.
