Zoanthids Up Close

Aquariums and macro photography go hand in hand like summertime and baseball. The up close imagery just reveals so many details that often go unnoticed in a busy reef aquarium, and it can shine a whole new light on your animals that you may never enjoy otherwise. We spend a great deal of our time taking macro photos of all of the amazing livestock we come across, and while they don’t always turn out great, we try to share the ones that do. Our focus in this image is a zoanthid colony, which sports a green coloration that has many pink tones spread throughout. The neon green mouth glows beautifully under even the faintest of actinic lighting, though the rest of the polyp doesn’t.
