Tip of the Day – 8/22/2013

When introducing livestock into your aquarium, it’s easy for new fish to immediately dart into the rock work and disappear for days on end. And on occasion, those fish never emerge from the rocks, as they shy away and refuse to end until their death. To prevent this, or at least ensure the new fish is eating, don’t let the new livestock roam freely in the tank right away. Place them into a specimen container that sits in the aquarium, allowing them to acclimate to the tank conditions for several days and receive specialized care until they’re ready to be released. This will also help all of the fish in the tank to get used to the new addition, and might show potential aggressive interactions that could cause issues down the road.
