If you’re looking to control every bit of phosphate or nitrate entering into your aquarium, one of the best places to start is the fish food. Most people overlook food items as a source of the algae fueling nutrients, but many of the binding agents within the food can wreak havoc on our closed systems. To properly prepare your foods, simply filter them with a coffee filter or pair of panty hose, both of which are cheap and easy. After rinsing the phosphate and nitrate ridden binding agents, just feed the tank or add your own food additive for extra nutritional value.
