Acropora Granulosa Up Close

Acropora Granulosa Up Close

Pictured this week is a macro shot of an Acropora granulosa. This coral is extremely pretty, but there’s an issue with the coral in this picture. Can anyone spot it? I’ll give you a hint, it’s very tiny and is not desirable to have on an Acro coral. Click on the image and then zoom in to get a better look. You should see what I’m talking about. If nobody has guess it correctly in a week, I’ll spill the beans.

The acro appears to have a single (miniscule) red bug on it.

ding ding ding! you nailed it. i was surprised when i uploaded the pics to my computer to find these on the acros. i looked through a few more pics and found more heavily infested corals. the corals didn't seem to mind too much though, as polyps were extended and none of the corals were fading in color.

Glad to hear it\’s not too bad of an infestation!

    • It is strange how red bugs prefer some corals more than others

i hear they prefer smooth-skinned acros over those with a greater amount of corallites.

well, it\’s not my aquarium. it\’s from an lfs display aquarium. i noticed red bugs on a few other corals, but i didn\’t pay attention to all of the corals. i was shopping for supplies anyways.
