Aquarium pumps can seize over time as calcium and other things are deposited on them. This can cause the pump’s motor to either stop working temporarily, or burn up because it’s working harder than it is designed to. Periodically, break your pumps down and soak them in a vinegar and water solution. Soaking generally doesn’t take very long and your pumps will be back to their normal working condition in no time.
