Tip of the Day – 4/13/2011

Small children and reef aquariums don’t always mix. Sure, the aquarium can offer endless amazement for your kids or young family members, but there are many dangers associated with reef tanks. For example, exploring children can find bottles of chemicals underneath your aquarium, and of course there are always sharp objects present. And let’s not forget about the electricity. The risks are virtually endless.

Also keep in mind that your child isn’t the only thing at risk. They may try to emulate your activities and feed your fish or toss small objects into the aquarium that may cause significant damage. The best safety tool for your children and the aquariums in your home is the childproof latch. These prevent children from opening the stand on the aquarium, thus keeping them out of the chemicals and fish food.
