Corals that are purchased online, or even from a local hobbyist, can quickly change color in your aquarium. You find that special coral, drool over the “What You See is What You Get” photograph, and grab it up before another reefkeeper swoops in and steals it. However, when it gets acclimated to your aquarium and adapts to your lighting, what you got may not look like what you purchased. Some colors can show up that weren’t there in the photo, but most of the time the colors fade out and become dull. This color change can occur very quickly, and is the result of different lighting, stressful shipping conditions, and a drastic change in water quality. Just keep this all in mind when your coral tuns our differently than what you thought you purchased.
