Even though the general consumer/hobbyist cannot purchase directly from most manufacturers, it’s still a good idea to establish some line of communication with them and subscribe to any newsletter or similar service to stay informed about potential new products. This will help you stay informed as to what new products are in the pipeline, as well as read up on any potential recall notices or known user issues that pop up.  All good aquarium companies will or at least should have top notch customer service, and most will readily answer emails or phone calls about whatever topic or issue you might want to bring up.
