When setting up a saltwater aquarium, it might be a good idea to place some form of impenetrable barrier between the bottom of the stand and the carpet or other flooring lying beneath it. Over time, small splashes will deposit water and salt onto the floor, causing mold and all other manner of nastiness to accumulate. This is especially important if you live in an apartment and want to get your deposit back!
