Tip of the Day – 10/10/2014

When working in your aquarium, safety is far more important than you might realize and there are a lot of dangers present that could significantly impact your ability to continue operating your tank. Using the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) is crucial to staying safe and could include things like gloves and safety glasses when handling things like live rock with sharp edges or animals that can sting. Activities like coral fragging, especially zoanthid and palythoa corals, is particularly dangerous due to the toxins these animals possess. Using a face shield and gloves are a good place to start, with the goal to prevent you from getting the deadly substance in your eyes or mouth, or even on your skin.
