If you like those gorgeous lay-and-wait predators that like to ambush their prey (lionfish and frogfish come to mind), then chances are you want to put them in a tank with much larger fish or in a system all by themselves. While many hobbyists have attempted aggressive reef tanks, which feature large predators and some other bold fish choices, those smaller ambush predators eventually get big enough to eat, well, just about everything. You might actually be surprised at what an anglerfish can fit into its mouth. They have been known to eat fish as large as themselves. That said, regularly feeding one of these predators will curb the appetite for its tankmates to some extent, though I would still proceed with plenty of caution.
