Lowering phosphates and other excess nutrients is the desired goal for a lot of reef aquarium keepers. But doing so too quickly could be very detrimental. Corals are used to a certain, stable level of elements and nutrients in an aquarium. Too much change can cause corals to stress out and bleach.
