Protein skimmers aren’t only good for filtering dissolved organic molecules from the water. This vital piece of reef keeping equipment also comes in handy when your calcium reactor constantly depresses pH levels. Simply place the tubing with effluent water into the protein skimmer and let the bubbles blow off excess CO2. This action will oxygenate the water and remove one of the only downsides to using a calcium reactor instead of dosing two-part or running Kalkwasser.
