In a majority of aquariums, it’s not required that the hobbyist feed his or her corals. Since corals are photosynthetic, they derive almost all of their nutrition from the aquarium’s lighting. However, there’s a small amount of that they get from free floating particles in the water. Because of this, I recommend target feeding corals on a semi-regular basis, or at the very least every once in a while. Corals require food of differing particle size, so it’s also a good idea to use a wide variety of foods that include small particles, medium sized particles, and even large particles for LPS corals.
