In this week’s AquaNerd POTW, we are displaying a massive Tridacna gigas clam that was once located in the beautiful display reef of Aquarium Design Group. This picture was taken at ADG’s previous showroom, and the aquarium has since been taken down. The huge Gigas clam measured several feet across, and interestingly enough, played host to a black and white Ocellaris clownfish. I think it was even too large to remove from the aquarium when it was taken down, and I’m not entirely sure how it was removed. One thing is for sure, and that is this clam is stunning. Most T. gigas clams seen in the hobby are drably colored. They are typically seen in a dull green or tan color, but this one is obviously a stunner. The only other place that I’ve seen a living clam this large is at the Waikiki Aquarium in Hawaii, where they actually have several spread across multiple aquariums. We’re not sure if ADG still has this clam in their possession, but we’ll find out in September when we get to take an exclusive tour of their new showroom and store with the owners.
