When doing routine maintenance on your aquarium, don’t forget to clean the fan intakes on your light fixtures and other electronic devices. The fans can suck in all manner of debris, and an accumulation of dust and salt creep can cause cooling issues within the housings of the various equipment. The increased temperatures will probably go unnoticed for a while and may never significantly affect the equipment, but it could also lead to equipment failures and fires. For these reasons alone, it’s a good idea to at least check these items every once in a while. To clean the fans, some disassembly will be required. Take the entire fan and blade guards out, remove dust, ensure that the fans are spinning as they should, and put everything back together. Double check that the fans are working and that they aren’t making any annoying noises that would likely distract you from the peaceful ambiance of the aquarium.
