Tip of the Day – 3/16/2012

When initially arranging live rock in your aquarium, make sure to leave plenty of room between the rocks and the nearby glass or acrylic. If you place the rocks too close to the walls, you will obviously not be able to clean at that location, or at the very least it will be a difficult task to accomplish. Making matters worse, the rocks can impede water flow along the sand bed in those tight spaces, causing dead spots to accumulate waste and other aquarium debris. So while setting up your pile of rocks for the first time, be sure to pass your algae scraping device back and forth in the areas where rock and glass are close together, making sure to rearrange things if necessary.
