When transferring equipment from one aquarium to another, it’s a good idea to clean the item thoroughly so that nothing unwanted gets into the new tank. Things like nuisance algae and even some pests can make the trip, often invading the new aquarium and messing it up from the start. So, any new equipment that is getting relocated needs a good vinegar bath in hot freshwater, along with a little scrubbing to break loose the more resilient stuff.
