Tip of the Day – 11/12/2012

After long periods of neglect, aquariums can become overrun by various types of algae and other unwanted life forms that can make getting back on top of the regular maintenance tasks even harder to do. From an aquarist’s perspective, that algae can like a humongous mountain that he or she just doesn’t have the time, effort, or energy to climb. At that point in the game, there are usually two options: breakdown the aquarium or tackle the issues. Obviously we try to avoid the aquarium breakdown option as much as possible, and to help get you back on the right track, we suggest making small goals and tackling them one at a time. If you suspect the aquarium’s light bulbs are too old, for example, start with those and your issues might get a little better on their own. If the problems persist, keep tackling small items, and before you know it, you’re back in the hobby at full steam and your aquarium doesn’t look half bad.
