Despite their vicious attacking style and being infamous for killing all manner of aquarium livestock, mantis shrimp can actually be beautiful and entertaining additions to an aquarium, even an active reef tank. These “shrimp” have some serious hardware that can cause some serious damage to crabs, shrimp, and snails, but they can actually place nice with fish and corals, depending on the mantis species of course. The peacock mantis shrimp is typically the most sought after, as it is quite colorful and generally leaves fish alone.
