When buying expensive aquarium livestock, keep in mind that most home insurance policies won’t cover them in the event of a disaster. While your policy may cover the actual equipment (tank, sump, pumps, etc.), the animals will not be covered at all in most cases. So, when that big hurricane or blizzard is projected to head your way, it’s important to set up as many protective measures as possible. Generators are probably the biggest help in most situations. That said, it’s important to keep you and your family safe, so don’t try to ride out a storm that’s too dangerous.
