The 4th of July is only a couple of days away, and while it’s normally a time for great celebration, it’s also a time when we need to be extra cautious around our aquariums. Because it’s a time of barbecuing and fireworks, there’s plenty of chances for us to get things on our hands that can easily leach back into the water. Lighter fluids and firework residues contain all sorts of hydrocarbons and heavy metals, so it’s wise to really wash your hands before doing any sort of work in the tank, or even feeding the fish. And with all of the alcohol flowing this holiday, it’s easy to forget what’s on your hands. We’re not trying to dampen anyone’s holiday spirits, we’re just asking everyone to be extra careful.
