As delicate as our reef systems tend to be, it is crucial that we all wash our hands thoroughly prior to putting them in the tank. While most of the time our hands may just have a little extra food on them from lunch or maybe some pen ink from being at work all day, you could very well have things like gasoline from filling your car up, anti-bacterial lotion, or some other potentially harmful substance on your hands that could cause all sorts of issues with your aquarium. The idea if hand cleansing is especially important for smaller aquariums that just don’t have the water volume to dilute any of the harmful chemicals. So, wash your hands really good before playing with your fish tank. It only takes a second and could save you from all kinds of issues down the road.
