Recently, Ecoxotic sent us a few of their fantastic products to review. We’ve gotten our hands dirty with the Panorama LED Module and the Stunner Strips and wanted to share some updates.

To fully test the capability of these lights, AquaNerd staffers have assembled an Ecoxotic LED-only aquarium to use these lights over. The tank is currently devoid of livestock, but we have been monitoring evaporation and heat output these lights create. After 8 hours of continually being illuminated, the LED Stunner Stips are barely warm to the touch. You can run your fingers across the LEDs and there’s virtually no heat. Additionally, the water is not heated by these lights. Similarly, the Panorama Module also puts out very little heat, though it appeared to emit just a little bit more than the Stunners.

Color-wise, both setups look great. We combined all four colors of the Stunner Strips into one retrofit system over the nano aquarium and the overall look is a crisp white with a healthy touch of blue. It’s not quite as blue as I prefer, but it’s certainly a good balance. Regardless of this though, the strips are interchangable so you can get any look you desire. The Panorama Module is also a little too white for my taste, but the light is super bright and about the same color as the Stunner Strip combination we ran. On both light setups, the highly sought after “shimmer effect” was present on the sand and through the water column.

Stay tuned for more updates on these great lighting products. In the next few days we should be doing some PAR testing on these setups to see how they compare with other light fixtures commonly used in the aquarium hobby.
