A recent trend in the aquarium hobby is the use of hydrogen peroxide as a coral dip and an in-tank treatment for problems like dinoflagellates. Algae and other photosynthetically driven pests can take over a frag plug or even an entire aquarium. Traditional dips aren’t very effective against algae, and dinoflagellates can persist in even seemingly nutrient poor water. Hobbyists have begun dosing hydrogen peroxide, in tiny amounts, to help rid themselves of these issues, and have done so with success. I’m not suggesting that you dump a bottle of hydrogen peroxide in your aquarium, but do realize that dosing it can be an option.
