When leaving for a vacation or simply being away for a few days, be prepared for the worst. Get a trustworthy tanksitter while you’re gone, and leave very detailed instructions for that individual, describing to the “t” what you want them to do and how to do it. Neighbors and relatives are a good choice, but it might be easier to find a local hobbyist or even pay a maintenance company to keep up with your aquarium. Also, try to avoid automatic fish feeders, as they usually fail and dump way too much food into your tank. This could lead to a very big mess once you get home.
