Sometimes the fish we pair together, which are typically clownfish, will actually mate in our home aquariums. For many hobbyists this is both a godsend and a curse. The simple act of mating means the hobbyist is doing something right. If the aquarium keeper can recreate conditions in his or her tank to prompt animals to actually display mating behavior and lay eggs, then the tank is obviously on the right track. Despite the initial elation of finding clownfish eggs and attending parents, the hobbyist must now decide if he or she wants to try to raise the offspring, or simply let them become food for corals, invertebrates, other fish, and protein skimmers. Raising fish fry is a daunting task, but it can be done. You’ll have to have the right type of food at the right time, keep water parameters within a very close range, and pay lots of attention to the growing fish.
