Fish Fossils

I think I may have found another hobby to pursue…and that’s fossil collecting. Being the typical nerdy guy, I like anything related to science. And after perusing the net for fossils to purchase (very bored at home), I realized just how much I wanted to combine my favorite hobby, aquariums, with another very interesting topic, dinosaurs. There are tons of real and replica fossils all over the Internet. Luckily, most of the fossils are of aquatic invertebrates and fish, so there’s plenty of fossils that directly appeal to the aquarium hobbyist. The only downside to this hobby, it’s significantly more expensive than even the aquarium hobby. Some fossils are relatively cheap, but the most interesting and unique go for multiple thousands of dollars. Images courtesy of GeoDecor.com, a Fossil Stone and Natural History Art online retailer.

  • You might also consider collecting some fossils for yourself. Fossils, especially marine fossils, are relatively common depending on where you live. Most are not nearly as nice as the Green River Formation fish that you have pictured, but you can dig up those too if you have a mind to look for them.
