Eshopps Hang On Protein Skimmer

I was in a local fish store (City Pets in Houston, TX) the other day and they had a Eshopps Hang-On Protein Skimmer on one of their display tanks. I, to that point, had never seen this particular skimmer in person. Initially, I never paid much attention to the Eshopps skimmer, but for some reason while at that store, I was drawn to it.

I gave the protein skimmer a thorough look over, and I have to say I was quite impressed with the build quality. The pump is mounted external to the skimmer, and directly underneath it. It draws in water from a tube that hangs in the aquarium and pushes water straight up into the skimmer body where it immediately hits the bubble plate. The water then rises into the rest of the body and bubbles form in the skimmer’s neck. Further inspecting the skimmer, I noticed no micro bubbles entering into the aquarium…which is a huge plus.

The Eshopps Hang-On protein skimmer comes in two “flavors”. One skimmer, the PSK-75H, is rated for aquariums up to 75 gallons, with the second model, the PSK-100H, as the name indicates is rated up to 100 gallon aquariums. Comparing the two, there is very little difference. The only real noticeable differences are the price tag (only $10 difference) and some slight height and width differences. Both skimmers come with a mesh wheel impeller.
