Certain snails cannot protect themselves from hermit crabs and parasites. These snails don’t have an operculum, and cannot close themselves up in their shells. Crabs can make quick meals of these virtually defenseless aquarium janitors. On top of that, these snails are usually triangular in shape. When they get flipped over, it’s almost impossible for them to right themselves.
