Tip of the Day – 6/24/2010

Shrimp and other crustaceans will randomly molt in your aquarium. They inflate their bodies with excess water to crack their exoskeleton, then slowly wriggle out of their old “skin”. This leftover shell will not be eaten by the cleanup crew. There’s little nutritional value to the discarded exoskeleton and it takes a long time to decay. It’s best to just remove the “skin” and throw it away.
