In their August newsletter, EcoTech Marine announced that they will be introducing a new product at MACNA this year. There is a flurry of speculation as to what this “new product” will be, but our guess is a larger model VorTech pump. With the MP10 holding down the nano aquariums, the MP20 being discontinued, and the MP40 enjoying vast success with mid-size aquariums, the huge aquarium market is virtually untouched by EcoTech. Coupling this with the fact that the Tunze 6305 can hit almost 8,000 gallons per hour, one would almost instantly have to think EcoTech Marine has a larger pump in mind.

Others speculate that instead of a larger pump, the VorTechs will gain some directionality. Currently, the VorTech pumps can only point in one direction. This has been a complaint for years and has turned a lot of people to Tunze. I don’t put a lot of weight into this rumor, as the VorTechs work great even if they can only pump in one direction. Their tiny in-tank footprint and various flow modes more than make up for the pump’s lacking in the ability to point other directions.

Read below for an excerpt from the EcoTech Marine Newsletter revealing the news.

A few years ago, before even the release of the MP20 and MP1o pumps, I heard rumors of a pump larger than the MP40. Of course this was all a rumor at that time, but maybe it’s finally coming true. I guess we’ll all find out within a week or so.
