Tip of the Day 11/17/10

Having the latest and greatest aquarium technology is nice, but do our aquariums really need weather simulations built into their lighting systems. I could understand the argument for dawn and dusk simulations, as well as nighttime lighting, but do our aquariums benefit from the occasionally simulated cloudy day or thunderstorm? Several aquarium lights feature these advances, which are all very nice, but are they worth it and do they really provide any benefit?

The only benefit I can imagine is that the broad range of "weather" may help the coral and fish adapt to a wider range of situations which might be beneficial for frags that end up in other tanks. Otherwise, it's just aquarists enjoying "playing God". 🙂
