Fungia Chowing Down on Fauna Marine LPS Food

0

I came across this gorgeous video from Cherry Corals showing a Fungia plate coral absolutely inhaling some Fauna Marine LPS Food. The video has been sped up 4x, making the feeding response rather fun to watch. Cherry Corals has several other videos on their YouTube Channel, all of which are visually stunning.

Plate corals are solitary polyps, each with a large mouth at the center of a disk full of tentacles. After food is captured on the tentacles, the Fungia moves the item to its mouth. The coral inflates its tissues and opens its mouth to the point where it can engulf very large food items. Plate corals can be housed on sandy or rocky substrates, but most hobbyists prefer to place them in the sand.
