Pictured in this installment of the AquaNerd Picture of the Week is the always stunning female leopard wrasse (Macropharyngodon meleagris). The gender of these fish is easily determined by coloration. Females leopard wrasses have a white base color with multiple black or brown spots. The males, on the other hand, have an orange base color with blue/green spots. Regardless of sex, the leopard wrasses are very beautiful fish, making them very popular. Despite their popularity, these fish are very difficult to care for. The biggest problem with these fish is getting them to consistently eat. Leopard wrasses are finicky eaters and need extra care and attention for long term survival.
