There are dozens and dozens of different salt brands on the aquarium market, and it can be quite confusing and frustrating to pick the salt that is best for you marine or reef aquarium. If running a fish-only tank, elements like calcium and magnesium aren’t as important. However, reef tanks rely heavily on properly balanced components and this makes finding the perfect salt a difficult chore, assuming you care enough to worry and do the research. Multiple aquarium salt studies have been conducted and can be found all over the web, but these studies usually just focus on the different elements found in the salt mix. Hobbyist experiences are also effective tools, and are great at gauging the long-term effects of the salt in aquariums with actual livestock.
