When mixing water for a water change, water pumps should be used to mixed the dissolving salt and an air pump should be used to help stabilize the pH of the water. The stabilized pH will help prevent the new batch of salt water from dropping too much, making the water change much less stressful to your aquarium inhabitants. This will also keep your alkalinity, calcium, and magnesium levels more stable during the mixing process.
